The survey, which has been virtually a menu item since the website was founded, it kind of sits out of the way and no one really pays attention to it much. It is however, usually one of the first places a new visitor goes when coming to the website for the first time. The existing questions have been inplace for quite sometime, and the responses that came back are interesting. I am not saying that the results are scientific by any stretch of the imagination as the sample population are only people that visit the website, but the responses make for some interesting information. I had initially thought about dropping the Survey page as the chat board allows for survey questions, but not everyone that visits registers for the chat board and I would still like their input. I will be developing new questions for survey page very soon, but I wanted to post the results. If you are a guide, resort owner, or just a curious fisherman and would like to submit some questions that you would like to ask, I would be more than happy to include them in the survey page. Since the questions are multiple choice, please also provide the choices for the answer you would like.
Here are the breakdowns for the questions currently in on the Survey page:
What was the length of your biggest musky? There were a total of 87 responses to this question. The answers broke out as follows: 20 - Never caught one a musky, 7 - said their musky was less than 30 inches, 15 - reported less than 40 inches, 20 - reported a catch of less than 45 inches, 19 - reported that their musky was less than 50 inches, and 6 responses reported catching a musky 50 inches or longer. It is interesting that basically 51% of the respondents have caught musky in excess of 40". That is great considering the muskies range.
What is the length of your largest pike? There was a total of 89 respondents to this question, and the answers broke out as follows: 7 respondents said they never caught one, 9 respondents reported less than 30 inches with another 12 saying that their pike was less then 30 inches, 27 respondents reported catching a pike less than 40 inches. It would appear that visitors to the website are really great at catching big pike as 24 reported catching pike less than 45 inches and another 10 respondents said that caught pike greater than 45 inches. This translates to over 38% of the respondents have caught pike in access of 40 inches.
What kind of fishing line do you use for musky and pike? I
was a little surprised by the answer as I would have thought the monofilament
would have placed higher, but here are the results: there
were 84 responses to this question with monofilament getting 22 or 26.19
%,
braided line received 25 or 29.76 %, and the super lines received 37 votes
or 44.05 %.
What pound test line do you use for fishing musky and pike? There was a total of 84 responses to this question. Three respondents said they used less than 10 pound test, while 24 reported using a line less than 20 (28.24 %). 34 respondants or 40% said they used less than 50 pound test with another 21 (24.71 %) said the used line less than 80. It is interesting the 3 respondents (same as less than 10 pound), reported using line more than 80 pound test.
Do you make your own fishing lures? There was a total of 86 responses to this question with "Yes" garnering 35 votes or 40.70 %, "No" got 51 votes or 59.30%.
What type of fishing rod do you use when fishing for musky and pike?
There was a total of 81 responses to this question. The two-handed
casting rod (musky rod) received 52 votes or 64.20 %, while use of a spinning
rod received 19 votes or 23.46%. I was surprised that the
one handed casting rod (bass rod) only received 6 votes or 7.41 %. Four
(4) voted for the fly rod which represented only 4.94 % of the vote.
Where do you primarily fish for musky and pike? The question resulted in 84 responses broken up as follows: Lakes got 60 votes or 71.43 %, while rivers received 14 votes or 16.67%, and reserviors received 10 votes or 11.90%.
Do you really believe the musky is a fish of 10,000 casts? This question received 83 votes. 64 votes or 77.11% of the respondents didn't think so, but said it seemed like it at times. Five (5) votes or 6.02% voted "Yes" that was about correct, while 2 or 2.41% respondents thought that 10,000 was the minimum number. Another 2 votes said they casted their entire life and never caught one, while 10 votes or 12.05% said they never have fished for them.
Do you subscribe to any musky / pike magazines? There were
82 responses to this question with "Yes" receiving 46 votes
or 56.10%, while "No" received 36 votes or 43.90%.
As I said, the survey does provide some interesting information and it is always fun to see how your answer might fit into each question.
